    Humboldt Peak

    Humboldt Peak

This climb ascends to Venezuela’s second highest mountain at 4.942 meters, which is just as impressive as its neighbor Pico Bolivar. The climb to the top of Humboldt’s glacier requires crampons and pick axes. This trip follows the same route as that of Pico Bolivar, passing through mysterious cloud forest, stark paramo, and hauntingly quiet desert paramo. The rewards of this crossing can be unforgettable

    Itinerario

Day 1: Mérida-La Mucuy-Laguna Coromoto At 0830hrs we drive from Mérida to La Mucuy (2,000m) in the Sierra Nevada National Park where the path goes right up into the cloud forest. On this part of the trek we’ll pass several streams and small waterfalls. Camp will be set up at Laguna Coromoto (3,200m), a cool alpine lake teeming with trout. (45 minutes by jeep, 5.5 hours hiking; 9 km) (–, L, D)

Day 2: Laguna Coromoto -Laguna Verde-Laguna Del Suero After packing up, we head off to Laguna Verde (3,800m), so named because of its brilliant emerald colour, located at the base of the impressive Humboldt (4,942m) and Bonpland Peaks (4,883m). The way to Laguna Verde is steeper and rockier than the previous day, and the scenery is much more open as you follow the valley upwards. A little further on, we will set up camp at Laguna Del Suero (4,200m), nestled in the tranquil surroundings of these imposing peaks. (5 hours hiking; 6km) (B, L, D)

Day 3: Laguna Del Suero-Morrena-Humboldt Summit-Laguna Del Suero After enjoying breakfast and packing up camp, we’ll start the climb up a steep rocky slope called “Morrena”.Once we reach the glacier, we’ll put our crampons on! When we reach the Humboldt’s summit (4,942m), we should enjoy an incredible view of the Colombian Andes in the distance and Pico Bolivar just 5km away in the other direction. We’ll then descend to Laguna Del Suero where we will camp for the night. (4-7 hours hiking) (B, L, D)

Day 4: Laguna Del Suero-Coromoto Lake-Mérida Our return journey takes us via Coromoto Lake where we'll have a picnic lunch overlooking the serene water. After lunch we’ll begin our decent to La Mucuy where our jeep awaits to bring us back to the city of Mérida. The tour includes a transfer to your hotel. (6 hours hiking, 45 minutes by jeep) (B, L,–)
